Can I use a Visa gift card online to purchase Amtrak train tickets and tickets to two Broadway shows?

I’m 16 and I am going to take a trip to New York in March and see two Broadway shows. Would I be able to buy a Visa gift card at Wal-Mart with cash and then use the gift card to purchase all of my tickets on-line? Has anyone ever done anything like this? Thank you!
